Research Summary

During my time at DGE, my research interests lay in developing novel geostatistical data assimilation techniques to aid in the precise understanding and modeling of the physical processes controlling the global carbon cycle, specifically, the sources and sinks of carbon dioxide (CO2). Even though a large number of satellite missions are being planned (eg., the NASA OCO-2 mission) to provide global coverage of high-density measurements of carbon dioxide, however, the large number of measurements available would make exisiting inversion techniques computationally infeasible. My research work involved overcoming the aforementioned computational limitations alongside taking into account the various sources of uncertainty, scaling issues, quality of retrieved measurements etc. to accurately infer the surface fluxes of CO2 from satellite measurements. Such detailed inferences were crucial to both furthering our understanding of the global carbon cycle process and also in providing a scientific basis for future atmospheric CO2 mitigation strategies.

Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where my research broadly revolves around understanding the mechanisms of air-sea interaction in coupled ocean-atmosphere systems. More details on my current research interests can be found here:
