Profile

Bio

Clare has over 15 years of solid work experience in both Human Resources and Finance. She graduated in History & Government from Cornell University, has an MBA degree in Finance and Accounting from NYU, and has her SPHR and SHRM-SCP certificates. Though she began her career in the field of Finance, she had the opportunity to explore the area of Human Resources about 15 years ago while working at the startup, There.com. She started as Director of Finance, but she quickly took over all the HR responsibilities as well. It was during this time that she discovered her true passion, which is working directly with people, especially on programs and processes which support, develop, and nurture employees. She enjoyed the field so much that she taught a class through HR.com to help 30 students study and pass the PHR/SPHR exam.

Clare has worked at large and well-established companies like Oracle and JP Morgan, as well as at several start-ups. She offers a wide range of HR skills, including benefits, training, employee development, compensation analysis, payroll, policy development, and HR management. At the same time, her finance background provides an opportunity to assist with planning, budgeting, detailed analysis, and setting up complicated systems. She is good at getting things done quickly, improving situations, solving problems, creating organization out of chaos, and motivating others.

Clare spends her free time with her 9 year old son, Finn, who is a sweet, precocious, curious, clever, creative little boy. She also loves reading mysteries (mostly of dark, Nordic fiction), visiting art museums and historic sites, and traveling to far away places.

She is very honored to be here at the Carnegie Institute for Science.
