Graduate Student Global EcologyCarnegie Institution for Science jho@carnegiescience.edu Office: 260 Panama StreetStanford, CA 94305, US  ProfileBioJeff Ho is a PhD Candidate in the Michalak Lab researching the occurrence and drivers of harmful algal blooms in lakes in reservoirs using satellite remote sensing. He is a student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. Ho's research has leveraged high-resolution satellite imagery over the past three decades to detect harmful algal bloom events at a global scale. By studying bloom data from a geographically diverse set of lakes at long time-scales, he has examined linkages between the apparent proliferation of algal blooms and drivers such as anthropogenic climate change. He is acutely interested in utilizing new opportunities made possible by cloud computing and machine learning to advance understanding of how management efforts can safeguard natural systems from future risk, e.g., due to climate change.
