Jeffrey Dukes

Jeff Dukes is a senior staff scientist in the Department of Global Ecology.  Previously, he was a professor at Purdue University, where he held the Belcher Chair for Environmental Sustainability in the College of Agriculture and directed the Purdue Climate Change Research Center.  Dr. Dukes’s research examines how plants and ecosystems respond to a changing environment, focusing on topics from invasive species to climate change.  Much of his experimental work seeks to inform and improve climate models.  Dr.

Elena Litchman

Elena Litchman is a Senior Staff Scientist in the Department of Global Ecology. Prior to starting at Carnegie, she was an MSU Foundation Professor at Michigan State University. She received her undergraduate degree from Moscow State University, Russia, and Ph.D. in ecology from University of Minnesota.

Lorenzo Rosa

Lorenzo Rosa is a Principal Investigator at the Department of Global Ecology at Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford. Prior to joining Carnegie, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Institute of Energy and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from University of California Berkeley, and a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. 

Anna Michalak

Dr. Anna M. Michalak is the Director of the Department of Global Ecology of the Carnegie Institution for Science and a Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University. Prior to joining Carnegie, she was the Frank and Brooke Transue Faculty Scholar and Associate Professor at the University of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, and a B.Sc.(Eng.) in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, Canada.

Joe Berry

Joe Berry’s work is focused on photosynthesis and associated processes (exchange of gases, fluorescence, remote sensing, ecophysiology) at a hierarchy of scales from the chloroplasts to the planet. His goal is to distill this information into equations that can be used in models to represent these processes in the complex webs of interacting processes that comprise the Biosphere of planet Earth. The focus is on understanding and representing the fundamental mechanisms so that our models give the right behavior and also help us understand why. Dr.
